Poo Bah

Poo Bah is an old tune I wrote back in the nineties. It is in fact part of a large bunch of recording I did in ‘98 (thanks to my good friend John Elkins who had the foresight to sit me down and record the tunes that were all floating around in my mind. I am so glad we did that because I’ve forgotten many of them by now).

It borrows it’s title from the Pulp Fiction line by Eric Stoltz that goes something like “don’t be bringing no fucked-up Poo-Bah to my house”, although this may be a fabrication of my own mind as my memories of reality and reality itself infrequently match up.

Anyway I wrote it when Princess Diana died because it made me (and everyone else) really confront my mortality, hence lines like “tomorrow is a car crash, and yesterday, well, that’s just history”.

My favourite line however is “Tonight it’s cigarette ash, and a beautiful girl, but I could never make any sense outta this world”.

Thankfully, tonight won’t involve any cigarette ash (I have since given up smoking for good, thank God) but it still will include a beautiful girl, in fact two: my gorgeous partner and our new baby daughter. Ain’t life grand? (Enjoy it while it lasts).

I may or may not get around to posting up the lyrics, but I am at work so better roll.
